Green Mine Conference by Sev.en Česká energie Held in Most: Post-Mining Landscape Gets a New Chance

A two-day conference dedicated to the strategic Green Mine project, which is transforming the industrial area of the ČSA mine for new purposes with the support of the Just Transition Operational Programme, attracted experts, educators, local government representatives, and the public to the city of Most. Sev.en Inntech a.s., part of the Sev.en Česká energie group and the project’s main coordinator, together with project partners, presented a plan to turn the post-mining area into a space for science, research, industry, and nature.

The Green Mine conference took place on May 13–14, 2025, at the Most City Hall. The project, led by Sev.en Inntech a.s. and supported by the Just Transition Operational Programme, aims to revitalize the ČSA surface mine and the Centrum underground mine by the end of 2027, laying the groundwork for sustainable development. With a planned investment of nearly CZK 640 million, the project envisions opening the area to the public and investors, laying the groundwork for the potential creation of up to 1,300 new jobs by these investors.

The project includes the construction of new transport infrastructure, landscape restoration incorporating blue-green infrastructure, preparation of development zones, promotion of research in renewable energy and smart agriculture, implementation of smart technologies, and support for education and employment in the post-mining economic transformation.

The conference was organized by Sev.en Inntech a.s. in cooperation with project partners: Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, Economic and Social Council of the Ústí Region (HSR-ÚK), Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, VUHU a.s., and the Institute for Landscape Research. Representatives from the city of Most, the Ústí Region, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry for Regional Development, and the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic also attended the event.

The first day was dedicated to professionals. After an introductory presentation by Sev.en Inntech and HSR-ÚK representatives, a panel discussion was held focusing on the preparation and future use of post-mining land. Additional sessions addressed employee care in the context of mining phase-out, research activities for the development of post-mining areas, and the project's communication and education strategies. The day concluded with a workshop on cooperation with other strategic initiatives supported by the Just Transition Operational Programme and a ceremonial signing of memoranda of cooperation.

The second day was aimed at schools. The program, designed for primary and secondary school teachers, focused on promoting themes such as landscape transformation, renewable energy, and climate sustainability. It featured interactive workshops, and the highlight of the day was a field trip and guided tour of the ČSA mine, where the Green Mine project is moving into its implementation phase. The goal was to show educators the educational and outreach opportunities the project offers their students, who will be able to use the mine as a living laboratory and classroom. Schools can register via the website www.greenmine.cz, where information for the public is also available.

Residents of Most and the surrounding region can learn more about the project on the website, through social media, and from upcoming public discussions, workshops, and informational materials. Each year during the project’s implementation, an Open Day will be held at the mine site, with full access planned from 2028. The first Open Day is scheduled for this summer.

The Green Mine project clearly demonstrates that landscapes with a mining past can find new meaning and future potential.

The Green Mine project's current status and goals were presented by the project team led by Pavel Farkač, Head of Development and Transformation Projects at company Sev.en Inntech a.s.

The second day of the conference included a guided field trip to the ČSA mine.
